In about 72hours the presidential debate will hold with five political parties participating. The vice presidential debate which held on the 14th of December last year garnered a lot of attention, so it will not be too much to expect greater attention for the presidential debate.
On Saturday 19th January, precisely at 7pm, many Nigerians will be watching the presidential candidates of ACPN, APC, ANN, PDP and YPP as they battle to win the hearts of Nigerians. The comment that many have made is that debates do not win elections; agreed, but it gives people an opportunity to decide who has superior ideas and the competence to lead the nation.
Nigerians should be looking out for the best candidates for the job and for once forget about who lacks structure to win an election. Unlike the vice presidential debate, the presidential debate is drawing keen interest because no one is sure if the President, Muhammadu Buhari will participate. The opposition parties have all called for the President to be in attendance and not send any representative.
Something very interesting about Saturday’s debate is the combination of intellectual prowess and display of competence between Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, Kingsley Moghalu and Fela Durotoye. Their supporters, most of who wished they had teamed up as a ‘third force’ will have to decide whether or not to remain in their camps or jump ships.
We look forward to an exciting experience during the debate.
