The Federal government of Nigeria has explained why it can’t publish details of beneficiaries under the COVID-19 palliatives given to citizens.
The Minister of Humanitarian affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq explained that it is against the norms to publish the names of individuals that benefit from such government interventions.
Sadiya stated during the Presidential task force briefing on COVID-19 that it is against “Human dignity” to support someone and then make it public.
She also explained the roles which the federal government is doing to alleviate the impact of the lockdown on its citizens. Sadiya said: “We were given 70,000 metric tonnes of grains. As of today, we were able to deploy 9,320 metric tonnes of grains to the three affected areas. That is about 334 trucks, while Kano is ongoing. Fifty trucks are almost at Kano.”
