The Supreme Court on Thursday, 13th February 2020 sacked David Lyon of the All Progressive Congress (APC) as Governor-Elect of Bayelsa State.
A five-member panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice Mary Odili annulled the election of Mr Lyon on the grounds that his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented mendacious information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in support of his qualification for the November 16 governorship election in the State.
Justice Ejembi Eko who presided over the judgment ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Messrs Lyon and Degi-Eremienyo and declare party with the highest number of lawful votes, with the judgment of the Supreme Court on Thursday, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Diri Duoye, could be inaugurated on Friday as Governor of Bayelsa State.
