Japanese-Australian singer George Miller or preferably known as Joji has finally released his 2018 project and debut album “BALLADS 1.” The album of 12 songs features Trippie Redd, Clams Casino, Shlohmo and D33J. it also contains 4 singles already released prior to the release of the project.
Here’s a preview to each song on Joji’s BALLADS 1
NO FUN
This is the eight track on the project. On this song Joji sings on the fact that he doesn’t have no friends and the ones he had weren’t fun. He admits that it was his fault that he lost his friends but still doesn’t care. Joji seems to be comfortable on his own as he mentions that he drives around on his own, doesn’t check his phone or mails and lies to his friends that he isn’t at home. He might have stated that he’s the fun person amongst his friends when he said “And now that summer’s gone, they don’t need no more fun.”
COME THRU
Joji sings on his insecurities, he’s confused on the person he truly is despite wanting to find love. He referenced himself to swimming like Nemo meaning he’s finding love even if it’s not too lost, the reference also implies how foolish he feels in showing affection over something. The only verse on the track channels to a darker side of Joji as he mentions in a metaphoric way demons and vampires.
R.I.P Feat. TRIPPIE REDD
Trippie and Joji sings about the length they would go for someone they love. They sing about trust and are willing to die for this person, even commit suicide too.
XNXX
Joji sings about a relationship where he’s the one putting more effort than his partner. He’s tired of it and wants his partner to go away even if it’s hard to stop thinking about her, he’s tire of running around and saying things just to make his partner happy. Why the song is titled after a porn site is unknown.
I’LL SEE YOU IN 40
Joji sings about the changes he finds in his lover. He wished she could remain 22 forever. He doesn’t want her to come around but still loves her, so he’ll see her when he’s 40 and probably not ashamed by how she looked.
ATTENTION
Joji craves attention on this track over a girl who didn’t show even a little bit of emotion towards him though she cries over guys she really didn’t like. The relationship seem to be that both Joji and the girl are close friends and she hasn’t noticed Joji’s feeling for her. The track somehow referenced to the late XXXTentacion when he said he doesn’t want to die so young and on that verse he sounded more like the late rapper.
SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK
This time Joji uses the metaphor of slow dancing in the dark to describe a failing relationship and just like slow dancing in the dark where faces of dancing partners is not seen Joji describes the relationship as not personal as both people doesn’t know what they want personally or what their partner wants, they’re stuck in the dark. He also thinks his partner is better off with another person as he’s convinced that he’s not good enough for the person.
TEST DRIVE
Being the last single to be released before the album Joji sings on a relationship where he wants a long term but his partner wants the opposite, a test drive. “Dying on the west side” implies that Joji constantly feels wrong or left as the direction west imply. Joji hopes his partner work on improving just as he’s doing.
WANTED U
Joji cries out his heart singing about someone he has wanted to be with in a long time. He’s plain about his feelings but it’s taking too long to be noticed. He sees himself as torn into thousand shapes and fold, broken.
CAN’T GET OVER YOU
Joji implores his sense of love at it’s beginning, sweet and reckless. Heartbroken, Joji still can’t get over his partner and might self-destruct with a box cutter if she still doesn’t want to be together with him.
YEAH RIGHT
Joji portrays someone who has gone through heartbreak and wants to party all night cause there are no options left.
WHY AM I STILL IN LA
Joji sings about the conflict he faces in L.A. He’s choked like he’s in a Ziploc.
