Tosin Akingbulu is a young and dynamic literature enthusiast who believes in a new Nigeria and the change that has begun in it with the emergence of her generation.
This poem, ‘Labels’ draws attention to the way society has subconsciously segregated herself into classes (rich/poor, literate/illiterate, fair/dark, high/low, strong/weak, etc.); with the tendency to treat anyone who does not fit into a certain class (which is prejudged to be superior) as less human.
Tosin in a creative interplay of words invites us to “Let go of those labels, check your subconsciousness and realize you are just as human as anyone.”
