Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is an occasion held annually to exhibit African fashion brands. The event was graced by many influential people in media, entertainment and fashion industries in Nigeria and was held on the 20th and 21st of December 2019.
There were series of discussions held around the fashion industry in Nigeria. The former President of Africa Fashion Designers, Prince Akani Idowu Oyefusi, C.E.O Nobel Afriq was a guest speaker at the event.
He focused on his passion for fashion and advised upcoming designers to create new designs which brings uniqueness to their work. “Fashion is not all about playing with colours and ideas, your fashion sense describes you, it passes a silent message across to the people.”
He encouraged upcoming designers to be committed to their dreams; your passion and commitment to work leads to success, looking back seeing how far you’ve gone and how well you’ve learnt how to sew is called success.”
“Making your own designs, dressing well and sampling them gives your brand the opportunity to be heard. If you have a dream of becoming a fashion designer never be afraid to learn, there is no business without challenges.”
“Fashion designers are to dress well; dressing well and making your work look good is good business.”
He went further to state that ‘’in a world where everything seems small and wrong, let your fashion speak for you’’. He advised fashion designers to be more experienced than their staff; ‘’you are a boss of what you know’’ because if it’s the other way round, the day your staff is away, work won’t be done.
In conclusion he said when you put in so much effort into your dream ,you get so much in return, prove your worth intellectually….’’ START SMALL, GROW BIG’’
