The Lagos State Government presented cheques to families of the 23 deceased victims of the Abule-Ado community after Six weeks pipeline explosion.
Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, who presented the cheques to the families, shared it with the Twitter community on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr Hamzat said in a tweet said that, “We hope the money will help provide some relief even as they miss their loved ones.”
“The state is working with stakeholders in the safety and power sector to find a solution to issues in the sector, and prevent the repeat of such a catastrophe,” he added.
Residents of Abule-Ado district in the Amuwo-odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State had awoken to a loud blast on Sunday, March 15, 2020. The blast, which shook buildings to their foundations, was later discovered to have resulted from a gas pipeline explosion.
Information gathered confirmed that many people had lost their lives, with several persons injured. Over 50 houses and vehicles worth millions of naira also got destroyed in the explosion.
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had set up a N2 billion relief fund headed by the Deputy Governor to support the survivors. The governor kicked off the fund by releasing N250 million into it, then some corporate organisations and individuals followed suit.
