The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has announced his move to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to pursue his gubernatorial aspirations for a second term.
He made this known to the public in a tweet.
“I have officially joined the @OfficialPDPNig to advance my ambition to seek re-election as Governor of Edo State. I, as always, remain committed to engendering good governance and sustainable development of our dear state.”
The Governor has faced obstacles in his former party, APC where he won the seat as governor four years ago.
Although, a PDP chieftain in the State had earlier mentioned Obaseki will not get the ticket even he moves, politics in Nigeria can be interesting to watch. Anything can happen at the last minutes; rules change to favour the highest bidder and most likely candidate to win the elections.
The PDP has responded to Obaseki’s defection as they welcome him to their party. In a statement they wrote, “Breaking News! The governor of Edo State, H. E. @GovernorObaseki has defected to our great Party, the @OfficialPDPNig. The declaration was made this afternoon at the state Secretariat of our party in Benin city, Edo State. Power to the people.”
The governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa also sent a welcome message. “I welcome my brother, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to our great party, the People’s Democratic Party! As you join us on this platform, we shall work to ensure that you continue the great work that you have started for the people of Edo State.”
