The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the disqualification of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from the June 22 primary election.
Governor Obaseki was disqualified by a screening panel constituted by the party to clear contenders for the party’s ticket ahead of Edo State governorship election later this year.
Gov. Obaseki had earlier raised an alarm, alleging that the APC chairman planned to announce his disqualification in a press conference.
The governor has been locked in an open and bitter contest against Adams Oshiomhole, the party’s national chairman whose influence looms considerably over Edo politics.
However, shortly after the allegations were made, chairman of the APC screening committee, Jonathan Ayuba, announced Obaseki’s disqualification while presenting his report to Adams Oshiomhole, APC national chairman, at the national secretariat in Abuja
Mr Adams Oshiomhole is believed to support Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party’s candidate in the election.
