The Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN), Lagos State Chapter proudly joined the global celebration of World Breastfeeding Week 2025, observed from August 1–7, with the theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
This annual event is a worldwide call to action, emphasizing the vital role breastfeeding plays in improving child survival rates, enhancing maternal health, and contributing to environmental and economic sustainability.
In Lagos, the celebration featured community hospital awareness campaigns at Subol Hospital Limited, Ajeromi Hospital, Ajegunle, Ogudu Primary Health Centre, and Lagos Island Maternity Hospital.

During the sessions, health professionals engaged mothers, caregivers and families in practical discussions on the benefits of breastfeeding and the need to establish lasting support systems that enable women to feed their children optimally, regardless of work conditions, environment, or social circumstances.
Speakers emphasized breastfeeding’s role in nutrition, environmental sustainability and economic relief, noting that it requires no costly formula and has no negative impact on the environment.

They also called on attendees to encourage other women to breastfeed, seek guidance during antenatal care, and join community breastfeeding clubs.

Practical demonstrations were conducted on proper latching, positioning, and recognizing if a baby is feeding well, ensuring mothers could apply the tips immediately.

The program concluded with expressions of gratitude to facility management teams and an invitation for future collaborations.
In a rallying call, participants were reminded that, “Breastfeeding Support Matters”.
