I saw ‘Your Excellency’ yesterday; a movie directed by Funke Akindele-Bello, who also played a lead role as Kemi Ajadi. The first thought that came to mind at the end of the movie was, “did I just watch a movie that had so many subs targeted at Donald Trump?”
Anyway, if POTUS needs to cool off from Iranian and impeachment wahala on his table, he could relax by watching ‘Your Excellency’; he has a mentee in Chief Olalekan Ajadi. The movie for me was more of a comedy than a political drama; some might say it is a ‘political comedy’.
The story was a good one; it tried to address some salient political undertones and the power of social media. Although I would have loved if more attention was given to the Nigerian political landscape; since the movie was about the presidential elections. It would have been nice to highlight some relatable behaviours in our political clime, rather than the mixture of Nigerian and American political climates.
I have seen better production quality in terms of cinematography and ambience from same production house, so I went into the cinema hoping for same standard or something better; my expectation was not met.
I am of the opinion that the full potentials of some actors in this star-studded movie were not maximized. For instance, Chigul’s role could have been given more screen time; this I believe would have added to the comedic feel of the movie.
In all, ‘Your Excellency’ was a good movie and I will encourage you go see it if you love comedy. I will love to hear from others who have watched this movie, let me know what you think.
