According to the oxford advanced learner’s dictionary, our environment is: “The natural world in which people, animals and plants live.” In clearer terms, each element needs the other two to survive. This is not the case in our world today. Plants suffer from deforestation, bush burning, lumbering among others; while animals are exposed to poaching, hunting, deforestation, health hazards, and starvation among others. Hence the question pops; nature has blessed us, to what extent have we blessed nature?
Sequel to the foregoing, World Environment Day(WED) is a day for raising awareness on emergence of environmental issues to marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. WED could also be called Eco Day, Environment Day. Over 143 countries participate in this awareness. The awareness has been in existence for almost five decades.
This year’s theme says: “Time for nature,” it’s high time we created more time for nature. It could be beneficial to the world through transportation, feeding, business, quality health, better life expectancy and several other benefits.
The role of WED has played a huge impact on transportation systems across the globe. Without nature there wouldn’t have been access for movement from one continent to the other. The only thing we can give to nature is rest.
Trees are good for food, better for scenery, best for life. Without them there’s no oxygen which will make it difficult for breathing to take place. Respect is reciprocal; out of the abundance of the soil the trees grow.
Conclusively, Let us all join the race of making the world a better place.
