The United States has declared the leader of Boko Haram terrorist organisation, Imam Abubakar Shekau, wanted.
A $7 million (N2.5 billion) bounty was also placed on him for anyone with information that may lead to his arrest.
The United States Department Rewards for Justice Programme made this known on their twitter handle yesterday.
“The United States Department of State is offering a reward of up to $7 million for information leading to the arrest to the terrorist Abubakar Shekau, boss of #BokoHaram. Mr. Shekau took over the leadership of the deadly group in 2010 following the killing of Mohammed Yusuf, its former leader. He garnered public attention in 2014 globally following the abduction of over 300 female schoolchildren from a school in the town of Chibok, in Borno State. United States will reward any information on his location with $7 million,” the statement reads.
The Boko Haram insurgents in the early hours of yesterday, attacked a military base in Damboa, Borno State, killing three soldiers and three policemen. 13 of the insurgents were also killed by the troops who made the take over of the base impossible, while 47 others were injured, this attack also caught the attention of the United State.
On the attack of the Army base in Damboa, security sources said the bloody battle that ensued when suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked a military base yesterday morning led to the death of three soldiers and three policemen. 13 of the terrorists were reportedly killed by the troops who fought to thwart them from over running the military base, while many others escaped with gunshot wounds.
It was revealed that the terrorists came through Gwoza Kalla road to attack the 25 Armoured Brigade located in Damboa town at about 5:40 am, raining bullets on the base. The terrorists, also stormed the Army base with several gun trucks armed with anti-aircraft guns with which they shot sporadically at anything in sight.
