The lower house of the Polish parliament, Sejm, has passed around half of amendments made by the Senate (the upper house) to the stimulus package prepared to deal with economic problems caused by the pandemic.
Among other changes, the Sejm agreed that state aid could be used by companies set up between February 1 and April 1, 2020.
The lower house also supported an amendment foreseeing the freeing, for all single person companies, from paying social insurance (ZUS) contributions, regardless of their level of income.
In general, the Senate proposed 95 amendments, while Sejm’s Public Finance Committee recommended adopting 45 of them.
The MPs, after the motion of deputy Speaker Mr. Ryszard Terlecki, voted on two sets of amendments. One consisted of amendments that were recommended by the committee and the second, of those that were not. The opposition protested against such a way of voting.
