A Presidential directive was issued on Sunday 11th of October that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG has been dissolved with immediate effect. The Inspector General of Police will communicate further developments in this regard.
Nigerian youths after 5 days of protest demanding #EndSARS and #EndPoliceBrutality have won this fight. This is just the beginning, this generation of young people have proven that they will not take no for an answer.
Updates reaching us show that even after the announcement by the IGP, Police officers still brutalized several protesters across the country. At Abuja teargas and live bullets were shot at protesters. In Ogbomosho, Oyo State, 8 more protesters were reported dead as a result of police firing live ammunition at protesters. There were reports of unlawful arrests and a show of force by police officers across the country.
Apparently, the people do not trust the government to keep its words, so protests continue until they hear directly from President Muhammadu Buhari; who they expect to announce the scrapping of SARS.
Protests began as early as 4am on Monday morning at Lekki-Ikoyi tollgate, Ajah tollgate and VI-Lekki tollgate. Others are planned across Lagos and Abuja today.
