Rapper Kanye West, in an Independence Day tweet, on Saturday announced that he is running for the president of the United States.
“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States! #2020VISION,” the rapper, 43, tweeted.
Entrepreneur Elon Musk replied, “You have my full support!” and the rapper quickly trended on Twitter with First Lady also becoming a trending topic, as fans and critics pondered the idea of Kim Kardashian ending up in the White House with her husband. The KKW Beauty founder retweeted her husband’s statement along with an American flag emoji.
It’s not clear how serious he is about running, but it seems unlikely the entertainer could actually unseat Trump. It’s probably more likely he could use a little publicity for his upcoming album, “God’s Country,” and its first single, “Wash Us in the Blood,” which was released earlier this week.
If West is to launch a bid, it would come late in the game, as the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, where each party will formally announce its respective candidates, are set for next month.
