The Kaduna State government said it has raised the sum of N1.9 million from violators of the lockdown within two days.The lockdown was put in place so as to curtail the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The Ministry of Justice disclosed to the State government that 605 culprits were convicted between Lastweek Thursday and Friday for violating the lockdown. 41 offenders of the Lockdown were given community service.
The state government had set up a mobile courts on April 24 to summarily try curfew violators at specific locations such as Kakuri, Kawo, Magajin Gari, Rigasa, Sabon Tasha and Maraban Rido, Rigachukun, Kaduna-Kano border and Abuja-Kaduna express way.
The Kaduna State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Aisha Dikko, said a breakdown of the offences showed that people were convicted for offenses such as failure to wear face masks in public and violation of movement restriction.
Aisha Dikko warned that violators may equally have their motorcycles, tricycles or motor vehicles forfeited to the government and stressed that the violation of stay at home order and not wearing face masks attract a fine of N5,000 each while the fine of not maintaining physical distancing is N7,000.
The Attorney General further stressed that the Unauthorised movement of motorcycles, tricycles,motor vehicles, trucks and buses attracts a sum of N5,000, N10,000, N20,000, N30,000, N20,000 respectively. ”
