There was a fire outbreak at Ile Epo around Abule Egbe area of Lagos on 19th January 2020. The explosion was reportedly caused by vandalised petroleum pipeline belonging to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The area was sent into a frenzy as the pipeline burst into flames, three individuals have been confirmed dead and several properties destroyed.
Many concerned Nigerians took to social media giving updates on the development, expressing there discontent towards the fire service who did not report to the scene of the incident on time.
The Governor of Lagos State through his twitter handle extended his sympathy, “My thoughts and prayers are with the families and businesses affected in the unfortunate incident at Abule Egba” He said.
“We are thankful for the brave members of LASEMA and our fire service that swung into action working all night to reduce the impact. Pipeline vandals will be shown no mercy” He stated further . The Governor also urged the people of the country to work together to ensure such man-made incidents like the one that happened in Abule Egba are avoided.
Also the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar also extended his prayer’s to the families of those who lost their persons and property, “My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost a dear one in the pipeline explosion at Ile-Epo around the Abule Egba area of Lagos in which scores of property were also destroyed,” Atiku said.
