The Super Eagles of Nigeria’s game against the Libyan national side also known as the Mediterranean nights, was a match a lot of fans were eager to watch because many supporters of the Nigerian national team knew it was a must win match and surely the super eagles did not disappoint, they handed a 4:0 thrashing to their visitors. We will be looking at four things we learnt from the game.
- Iwobi and the No.10 role:
There is no doubt that Alex Iwobi really wants to play in the no 10 role for both club(Arsenal) and country and he was really instrumental in that position on Saturday. He had a hand in some of the goals scored in the game and his link up play all through the encounter was spot on. It is my opinion that coach Rohr realizes that no one at the moment is suited for that role than him.
- Igahlo can score goals when he wants:
After the World Cup held in Russia, Igahlo was singled out for heavy criticism due to chances he squandered and many fans called for him to be dropped for subsequent games, but he needed just one match to announce himself back and he did just that by scoring in the game against Seychelles and against the Libyan side he deservedly scored a hat-trick, reminding us that his goals are not just made in China.
- Uyo stadium becoming a fortress:
The super eagles play better in this stadium and what the NFF needs to do is to improve the pitch for subsequent matches. We all remember that enroute the World Cup the Nigerian team won all their matches played in this stadium; it seems they love it here at the Goodwill’s Akpabio Stadium. Trust me, the next team they play here is in for some serious thrashing.
- Watch out for 2nd leg:
The second leg won’t be an easy time when the two teams clash for the reverse fixture on Tuesday 16 October, the Libyan side will be aiming for revenge; this is because they didn’t really play badly. They had a lot to say about the officiating, but I believe they must have learnt some lessons from Saturday’s game and would want to make amends. They won’t give the eagles a pleasure ride, because they also want to play in the Nations Cup.
