Few days ago, I was up late, not because I was working or reading, but because I was anxious. I had joined a stay at home challenge and I had to win. I desired success and so, I was willing to sacrifice all I could and more for the challenge – my time, sleep, money, etc.
What is desire?
According to Wikipedia, desire is that emotion of longing or hoping for a person, object or outcome.
Desire is the longing to achieve a certain goal. It is what makes for the extra push, the double checking, the extra money and time we put into a thing. Our desires take us out of bed and into the road daily. Deirdre Clohesry of alustforlife.com states that our desires make us who we are, make us function and keep us moving forward.
What do we desire?
Human desire is based on wants and needs. Hence, our desires spans across virtually everything. Will Meecham, in his article, ‘Mad with desire’ says that the less we chase desire, the more peaceful we feel. This may be true, but it is almost not obtainable because we have a desire for everything we do in life.
Generally, we desire for success in everything – education ,job, business, relationships and life itself.
How our desires decide for us
Where there is no desire, there is no goal, hope and focus. Niranjan Sheshadri of mindandsoul.space says that, “Desires cannot be abstract. The object of any desire must have a form. Such forms become easy to relate to and they become the goal. When we link our awareness to a form, the mind begins to move towards that goal.” This implies that it is our desire to get things done, succeed, overcome our limitations, do and become better that moves us to act. This resonates with the saying that human desire is the fundamental motivation of all human actions by Wikipedia.
To a greater degree how much you will be willing to put in place, do, become and/or lose to achieve a thing/goal is determined by how strong you desire it. Without desire, we will despair of everything in life. Can you imagine living a life in which you don’t have the desire for anything?
