The foundation for the quality of Africans who will lead the continent in another 30 years has to be established today. No one is coming to save us; our destiny is in our hands.
In this video I share on how we can deal with the culture of shame in Africa. It was inspired by Bovi Ugboma’s (a popular Nigerian comedian) session at the Daystar Excellence in Leadership Conference in 2023. If I had to summarize what he said in his speech I would say, we live in a society where people are looking for ways to shame others or trying to avoid being shamed. This tendency to shame or be shamed is costing us the authenticity that adds colour to our lives and society.
We are raising a generation that have to ‘fake it until they make it’. We are playing around a keg of gunpowder filled with a sense of low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. There’s an identity crisis brewing amongst young Africans; we need to act fast and take bold actions in preserving our identities and cultural heritage.
At Teo-Inspiro we have a new initiative to address these challenges as we position ourselves as solution providers in preserving our cultural heritage. The African Culture and Creativity (AC&C) Hub is aimed at preserving the rich African cultural heritage for future generations. We are empowering kids and teens to be self-aware and understand their identity as Africans by leveraging digital and onsite learning platforms to achieve this goal.
The over- westernization and extinction of African values, cultures and traditions in the next 100 years is a possibility if nothing is done to preserve them. Young people at home and in diaspora are facing an identity crisis, losing their originality and authenticity as Africans. Cultural peculiarities like our fashion, technology, food, language, music, games, dance, and values are being relegated to the background and this is affecting the continent negatively.
Our vision is to raise a generation of culturally-aware, creative and proud Africans. Our African-themed summer program is designed to provide children aged 6 to 15 with a unique opportunity to explore the rich heritage, history, and diversity of Africa through a variety of engaging activities, including:
