The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr. Frank Okiye, has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19), hours after Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State went into self- isolation.
Mr. Philip Shaibu, who is the deputy governor of the state, disclosed this to the press on Wednesday in Benin, the state capital.
According to Mr. Shaibu, the state is taking measures to tackle the spread of the virus in the state after it recorded its first case on Monday.
On Tuesday the governor of the state went into self isolation after coming in contact with Alhaji Abba Kyari, the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed.
In a statement, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, said the governor has sent his samples for testing.
He noted that Governor Obaseki is not showing any symptoms of the virus after close contact with the two patients.
Mr. Osagie added that the governor has taken the necessary precaution to self-isolate to protect people that may otherwise come in contact with him.
