The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended the closure of all the International airports in the country by two weeks due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
However, the government had said that emergency and essential flights could be operated from any of the airports within the period.
The Minister of Aviation, Senator Sirika Hadi, said in a tweet: “As a result of the extension on lockdown by Mr President, it’s no longer possible for us to open airports for normal operations by the 23rd April, 2020. They will be shutdown for the next 2 weeks. This is subject to review.”
President Muhammadu Buhari extended the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital territory Abuja by two weeks. Ahead of the lockdown, the international airports in the country had been shut as a preventive measure for the spread of the pandemic in the country.
The Minister also appealed to air travellers and all stakeholders in the aviation industry to see the current situation as necessity to safeguard the health and well-being of the people, with the hope that the pandemic will be short-lived.
