In this article I want to share some tips on staying nutritionally healthy.
- Eat a variety of foods. Try to explore different food sources that provide same nutrient. For example, if you had bread for breakfast today, you can eat yam or potato as source of carbohydrate tomorrow, you do not have to repeat bread every morning.
- Maintain a desirable weight. Ensure that your nutritional status is in the normal range and not under or over weight. We will discuss this further another time
- Eat foods with adequate starch and fibre; fruits and vegetables fall into this category. Roots and tubers like potatoes also have high fibre and starch content.
- Avoid too much sugar. Run away from pastries and soft drinks as much as you can.
- Choose a diet low in fat, saturated fat and cholesterol
- Avoid too much salt
- If you drink alcohol, do so in moderation.
