Deji Adeyanju was arrested today while leading a protest to demand the neutrality of Nigerian Police in the forthcoming election.
He has been arraigned in court on allegations of criminal defamation and breach of public peace.
Adeyanju Deji is an activist and the convener of Concerned Nigerian, a Pro-Democracy group committed to Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption in Nigeria.
The neutrality of the police has been questioned in recent times given the institution’s seeming involvement on certain political challenges facing some States.
In a democratic society one would expect a peaceful demonstration to not cause any form of disturbance. The attitude of a democratic society should support the civil rights of her citizens.
