As we mark #WorldTourismDay, we renew our commitment to showcase the beauty of Africa by telling stories about the people, places and cultures of this great continent. We believe that our work will spark the interest of Africans and inspire a new generation of Africans traveling within Africa as tourists.
We call on our governments to pay attention to the tourism potential of our different communities and cities. We hope that they stop waiting for some miraculous transformation by some ‘foreign investor’ to build this industry before they show any interest.
The cost of traveling within Africa is quite high and is a major factor that discourages inter country travel. We suggest that more attention should be given to easing travel within the continent.
It is time the Ministry of Culture and Tourism at Federal and State levels did more than organizing workshops, seminars, symposiums or rallies to mark World Tourism Day which tend to produce little or no impact in the industry. This is the time to have a strategy, to identify potential partners and come up with policies that will drive the sector.
Happy World Tourism Day Africa!
