Today Nigerians will elect candidates for President, Federal House of Representative Members and Senatorial Representatives hold today across the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. Reports from various polling units show that voters turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. This is contrary to the fear of voter apathy due to the sudden postponement of the elections last week.

Although there are some reports of violence in some polling units where it is reported that APC thugs harassed voters, majority of the polling units have had peaceful elections. The issue of the time when the election began is still a huge challenge that INEC needs to work on for subsequent elections.

The EFCC was also involved in the election with their presence in some States to ‘curb vote-buying’.
INEC has also directed that the time be extended for polling units where voting did not start at 8am as stipulated by the election umpires. In a few hours vote counting will begin in different polling units.
