Iranian Military Leader Qasem Soleimani known to be the second most powerful man in Iran was killed by a United States drone strike at Baghdad on Friday the 3rd of January 2020.
In honour of Qasem Soleimani, Head of Iran’s elite Quds Force who was killed in a United States air raid in Baghdad, a funeral procession was carried out in the Iranian city of Ahvaz early on Sunday, hours after his remains arrived from Iraq.
Key US Government officials have made various statements to justify the action by the United States. The Pentagon described it as a “defensive” action. The United States President Donald Trump said the strike was carried out to “stop a war”.
This has instigated negative reactions from the Democrats, who have described the raid as an assassination, saying, “Assassinations are not allowed under the law”.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei issued statement emphasizing that “a harsh revenge will be carried out”. In a response tweet, President, Donald Trump threatened to hit 52 Iranian sites very hard, which will affect there cultural sites if any American citizen is hurt or properties destroyed.
