The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal has directed that the new minimum wage of N30,000 be paid to the State’s civil servants from January 2020. He also ordered for the immediate verification of personnel to possibly sieve out ghost workers on pay roll. He went further to state that ‘’confirmation of non-assessed staff and sales of letter of employment will not be tolerated.’’
The Governor gave these directives when he received the report of the committee constituted by the State Government on implementation of the new minimum wage and consequential adjustments.
”Prior to the negotiation that ushered the new wage regime, the State Government had discovered a disparity in the salary data between the State Civil service Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of The Head of Service’’ He said.
In harmonizing data, The Governor assured payment of the backlog of salaries as a result of the fiscal discipline measures embarked upon by the government.
He also commended the Labour Union and Government Officials on the committee for their collective efforts.
