The six-month-old strike by the Academic staff Union of Universities is set to continue as the Federal Government and lecturers of Federal Universities did not reach an agreement to end the strike.
A three-hour meeting held on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the Headquarters of the National University Commission, Abuja, headed by a top ASUU official, Professor Nimi Briggs in a bid to end the ongoing strike action ended in a deadlock.
The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke in an interview with a correspondent of the Punch Newspaper on Tuesday, August 16 2022, said “the meeting was not good.” He further stated “we didn’t sign anything; they didn’t come with anything good. We will talk to our members before we talk to the press.”
Following the Federal Government’s failure to settle the lingering issues as contained in the agreement with ASUU in 2009, the Union had embarked on a strike action on Monday, February 14, 2022.
