The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), on Sunday, sealed a four-storey building with visible signs of distress at 17, Obadina Street, Lagos Island.
The General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Biola Kosegbe, stated that the Agency, acting on a tip-off from concerned citizens, sent a technical team to the location to ascertain the level of distress.
Engr. Kosegbe stated the building exhibited clear signs of internal distress, which was obvious from the exposed corroded reinforcement. The building was promptly sealed for further assessment by a team of Structural Engineers from the Agency, while the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory will conduct structural stability tests on concrete members in order to avert any mishap.
The residents have been advised to find alternative accommodation pending the conclusion of all stability tests by the State Government.
Engr. Kosegbe made it known that Lagos State is determined to make sure lives and properties of Lagosians are protected through the identification of distressed and prone-to collapse buildings in the State.She urged all Lagos residents to be their brothers’ keeper by notifying the Agency of any distressed buildings within their environment.
